So, now Logan and Luke are seeing the graphic details of her early brutal training, which is undoubtedly horrifying. But we have seen several glimpses of this before, so curiously I don't find this shocking. Not like it is to Luke and Logan, who are agaste! Clearly that is your point, the impact to them. I did think the device of teasing the end of the session, no wait it's just a break for an hour, worked really well to emphasize the trauma!
Now I am probably going out on one of my speculative limbs, but what is Misty showing Luke and Logan? Knowing how thoroughly she was programmed by James, are these memories real, or a mixture of real and programed memories that are part of the mental programing imbedded by James? Was all the brutal training real or is it simply created memories which could have served the same pain / reward response! And, in the same vein, we still don't know what little nuggets and to what purpose Luke dropped them into Misty's mind a few scenes ago. A remaining mystery that perpetuates suspicions about his motivation.
My dear Frank, thinking more deeply than I expect again... Tsk, tsk. That's a me-problem, for sure, it's not like it's the first time--I should be prepared by now. I do love it so don't stop, please. Okay, first off, sorry it's taken so long or me to make the time to reply. I feel quite bad. You read my story within hours of it being published, and here it takes me days and days to get around to your thoughtful comments.
You're spot on with your analysis by the way, this scene is about shocking Luke and Logan, and I purposely cut off where I did because you guys already know what happens through Misty's frequent inner monologue, but they have no idea so this will be quite effective for the guys.
As to your speculative limb, I think I have to break out the saw a little bit, remember Rashak Grora? Luke told Logan then that it's impossible to implant a memory permanently. You can fabricate and alter memories but it wears off within hours so the memories Misty shows Luke and Logan are real. She's relived them multiple times via James, but any alterations he might have made during those replays would have reverted to the original afterward. There's also the distinction between memories and dreams. Many of the glimpses Misty has shown us were dreams, influenced by those altered replays and her own fears but still dreams.
Though, now that you mention it, the idea of these traumatic experiences being implanted does appeal to me... Maybe somewhere... 🤔 anyway, the nuggets you're talking about here, must be the seeds of trust Luke planted during his initial foray into Misty's subconscious landscape, which you seem to have latched onto ferociously for some reason. I'm afraid that this exact situation happens to be the result of them. Sorry if that's a little disappointing, but consider how he immediately latched onto the opportunity when she approached him. I agree it does call his motivation into question, but his motivation has been questionable all along hasn't it? Why did he bring her home with him rather than hand her over to the soldiers when it became apparent that she was the object of their manhunt all those years ago? Why adopt her into his family to begin with despite her being such a problematic child? Why go to the trouble of 'rescuing' her from the PG when they had her longer than he did? Is he really just that good a guy?
Just some thoughts to keep you going. JW would have a field day with these I'm sure. 🫢
Believe me Jenny, I have no problem waiting for your detailed postmortem of my comments, lol! I know you are a very busy person, where I'm retired and just looking for someone to joust! And you have left many dents in my rusty old armor. And leave it to you to use home ground advantage by pulling out one little tiny bit of detail about implanted memory to douse me and my speculative theory!!! Ha! Cheers!!
Thanks as always Dave. Been such a busy weekend, I hardly had time to touch my laptop, so it's taken a while to get around to replies, but I always appreciate your support and encouragement. 💓
